![]() ![]() I will list a few and explain how a WiFi Repeater can ameliorate the situation. As mentioned before, one of the reasons is the distance between your router and your device. There are many reasons you may be having trouble with your connection. However, A WiFi Extender requires the assistance of an ethernet cable to lengthen the range of the existing network connection.Īlso, it doesn’t create a new connection as the WiFi Repeater does. Many often use the term interchangeably because it essentially achieves the same function of extending the WiFi. It operates differently from a WiFi Extender. Your Nighthawk router is now in extender mode. You will have to adjust the connectivity settings on your device so that they connect to the duplicated network. Your router’s MAC address is on a sticker located on the back or bottom of your router. For example, if your main router’s IP address is 192.168.1.1, your repeating router should have an IP address like 192.168.1.75.įor more information, see What is an IP address?.ġ1. (Optional) If you don’t want to use your extender router for WiFi, only for wired Ethernet connections, select Disable Wireless Client Association.įor example, you might choose this option if you are only setting up the extender to connect a wired printer, television, or other device to your network.ġ2. In the Base Station MAC Address field, enter the MAC address of your Nighthawk router. The last octet of the extender router’s IP address must be different than your main router’s IP address. Note: Your router’s IP address is usually listed on a sticker located on your router. Note: The user name and password are case-sensitive.Ĥ. Select Wireless and verify that the wireless settings of your Nighthawk router are correct.ĥ. Before enabling extender mode, Security Options must be set to None.ħ. Select Advanced Setup > Router/AP/Bridge/Repeating Mode.Ĩ. Select Enable Wireless Repeating Function for the 2.4GHz or 5GHz WiFi band.įor more information, see What is the difference between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wireless frequencies?.ĩ. Select the radio button for Wireless Repeater.ġ0. In the Repeater IP Address field, type the IP address of the router that you want to make the extender. Launch an Internet browser from a computer or wireless device that is connected to your Nighthawk router’s wireless network. ![]() To enable the extender mode feature on your Nighthawk router: Note: Use a wired Ethernet connection during setup to avoid interfering with your wireless connection. ![]() We recommend using your Netgear router as your main router and purchasing an extender to increase your WiFi coverage. Note: If you set up your Netgear router as an extender (wireless repeater), important routing functions like network traffic management are not active. You can also use your Nighthawk router as an extender and a non-NETGEAR router as your main router. The non-NETGEAR router repeats your existing WiFi signal instead of broadcasting a new one. Extender (wireless repeater) mode enables you to connect a non-NETGEAR router to your Nighthawk router in order to extend your WiFi coverage. ![]()
